Another Road Trip

Last week some people moved from the States to another city in my country to live for a while and share truth. Since there was no one better qualified to help (i.e., no other singles around) I got to meet them at the airport and help them get set up in their city.

Last Wednesday I jumped in the van and drove about 6 hours to a friend's house in another city. The next morning it was back on the road as we headed to our version of the Big Apple, then to the new guys' city. All in all, I was on the road about 20 hours.

With a sweet ride like this, the hours sailed away

The Ferryboat I parked the van in for part of the trip as we crossed the seas

I had a lot of fun helping the new guys get situated. We toured around the city, got cell phones and internet connections, and checked out the malls. As an added bonus, one of the malls had a Subway and a Dunkin' Donuts in it. This might not be a big deal to you, but keep in mind I haven't seen either in about 2 years.

Me the happy camper with a Subway in one hand and a donut in the other

After 2 feet of Subway and half a dozen donuts, it was time to get some exercise. Fortunately, there just happened to be a race that same weekend I was in the city. So, I laced up and ran the 5k race they had. It was a pretty hard course, actually. There were some killer hills. But, I finished and got a nifty medal and some free water.

I don't have any pictures from that race, here's a pic from an older race

After a full weekend of seeing the city sites, helping friends get situated, eating Subway and Donuts, playing one of the guy's Wii, and running a race, I headed home and took a nap.

Picture Post

I live pretty close to one of the best-preserved Biblical sites in the world. As you can imagine, I've seen it my fair share of times with different volunteer groups and whatnot, and I thought I'd post some pictures of it.

The Small Amphitheater

Ancient Toilets. I've heard that back in the day a live band used to play while people did their business.

The Old Library

The Big Amphitheater. The picture doesn't do it justice, it's huge.

An Ancient Baptistery, probably my favorite spot

You Can't Make This Stuff Up

A team member and I have been meeting with Sam for 6 months or so. He's a friend of a friend, a self-described atheist who at the same time wants to read the Word. So me and my teammate have been meeting and reading the Word with him. Generally, he's very antagonistic and even rude when we meet. He's said himself he likes to push people's buttons.

Last week he called my teammate and told him that he wanted them to meet alone. My teammate went, expecting the guy to ask him for money or something, but came back with an amazing story. Sam met with him and told him that a few days ago he decided to open up his copy of the New Testament. When he opened it, he smelled a very sweet aroma, something he had never smelled before. He smelled around his house, but didn't smell anything. He only smelled it coming from the Word. His wife smelled the book and didn't smell anything, only Sam. After that Sam told my teammate that he is going to read the whole book, and he wants my teammate's help. My teammate told me it was like a whole different man was sitting there that night.

They'll meet like this for the second time later this week. Please lift Sam up.
