Quick Update

The Good News: I made it back from the hike just fine. We walked a lot, met a lot of shepherds, and had a great time.

The Bad News: I'm leaving tomorrow to take another volunteer group to another city for a couple of weeks. Actually, that's not really bad news, but it does mean I have to wait on posting hiking stories until later.

Now that the family has returned to the States, it's back to work. This week, that means I'm going with a group from the states on a hiking trip through the middle of the country to find some villages and share the gospel. (Yes, my job rocks)

I'm looking forward to this trip not only because I get the chance to go find some people that have never heard before (they've probably never seen a white guy before for that matter), but I have never seriously hiked before in my life. Shoot, I've never even pitched a tent by myself before.

I'll be hanging out with a group of guys, walking around in the hot sun, going for days on end without showering or shaving, eating whatever I can find...actually I do those things all the time. But next week, it'll be on a trail heading to some villages and shepherds.

Family Fun

As you probably already knew, my family flew in for a couple of weeks! We've had a good time playing tourist and just hanging out. We met at another city and stayed for a few days, then headed back home to my corner of the woods. Despite the worst July 4th I've ever had, where we stayed in the hospital all night with my sick sister, it's been a good time. Here's some pics:

Check out the fake Oakleys I bought at the market. I paid about 15 bucks, I don't think I got a very good deal.

The folks.

Road Trippin' Part 2

I meant to write this post a week or so ago, but as usual things stay busy, so here's the Reader's Digest version of the trip:

So there I was in this city with 10 senior citizens, not sure if we were going to be loved and accepted or mugged. As it turns out, no one got mugged. Our plan for the week consisted of splitting up and randomly walking around and meeting people, and it worked surprisingly well. We got to meet a lot of people, give out a lot of Bibles, and even go to a wedding. (I'm still not sure who the bride and groom were, they were somehow related to someone we met I guess...)

Here's a pic of us at the "day before the wedding reception party thing" enjoying some good ol' home cooking.

Here's a pic of my impromptu concert at an ice cream cafe we went to one night. I sang the only local song I know, then did a horrible rendition of Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. That guy can seriously play the violin, though, he was awesome.

It really was a great trip. The city was impacted positively, and the people that came went back to the States excited and without having been mugged at all.
